Short media bio
The Red Pen Men are a Midwest horror collective composed of Ash MacReady, Mark Hardcastle, and Dred Baird. Specializing in psychological horror, folklore, and atmospheric storytelling, the group creates fiction rooted in consequence, memory, faith, and the darker side of human nature. Their debut anthology, The Red Ledger, is available now in print, ebook, and audiobook.
About the collective
The Red Pen Men bring three distinct voices to a shared vision of horror. Ash MacReady, Mark Hardcastle, and Dred Baird blend psychological horror, folklore, religious imagery, and cinematic storytelling into fiction grounded in recognizable places and human fears.
Drawing inspiration from the Mississippi River region, small-town America, and forgotten communities, their stories explore consequence, memory, faith, guilt, survival, and obsession. The horror begins close to home, among familiar people and beneath the surface of ordinary life.
Their debut anthology, The Red Ledger, brings together thirteen tales of dark fiction and psychological dread. Alongside fiction, the collective develops screenplays and other horror media, including the contained religious horror screenplay The Devout.
